Newsletter for Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Dear Parents,

This past weekend, the church celebrated the Feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church and the gift of the Holy Spirit – the sending of the Holy Spirit by our Lord Jesus Christ. Having been with his disciples for forty days after the resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of God the Father. Pentecost closes the Easter Season. It celebrates the overwhelming experience of God giving the Holy Spirit to the first community of believers in the church. The color of the vestments and decorations for Pentecost is red, which symbolizes the intense love and fire of the Holy Spirit. From now until the beginning of the Advent Season we will celebrate the church season known as Ordinary Time. We now see the return of the green vestments that are a symbol of life and growth in the church.

As most of you know, Voltaire Estrada, father of one of our third graders, Angelica, was killed in a tragic accident on Saturday, May 23rd. The 8:30am Mass on Friday, May 29th will be offered for the repose of his soul. All are welcome to join us. Please continue to keep Angelica and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Yearbook: Today those who have pre-ordered a yearbook are receiving it in their Envelope. There are still a few copies available but a sellout is assured! Remember, memory books are now $25 and can be purchased from the office until our supply runs out.

Newsletter for Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Dear Parents,

As May draws to a close, we reflect on its association with Mary. During this special month, in which we celebrated Christ's Ascension into Heaven, we are reminded to always keep Mary in our hearts. As we carry on through the year, we should continue to develop a deep personal relationship with Mary – one of love, affection, devotion and trust, so that she always has an important place in our livesto deepen our devotion to Mary. Let's all try to take some practical steps such as praying the Rosary or maybe saying a special prayer like the Hail Mary or Memorare throughout the year, not just during May. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the Queen of Peace, so as we pray, we offer our prayers for peace in our city and throughout the world.
STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS
Congratulations to all our candidates for running a very successful and effective campaign for the 2015-16 Student Council.  All the candidates provided festive and informative campaign materials and each gave rousing campaign speeches to excite the 4th through 8th grade voters! This year, the ballots were collected and tabulated electronically in a "Voting Booth" in the school library. The results demonstrated that every candidate had the support of many voters and the races were fairly fought and fairly won! The following students will hold Student Council Officer positions for the 2015-16 school year:

President: Destiny Silva-Castro
Vice President: Rainier Dela Cruz
Secretary: Alyssa Taylor
Treasurers: Cristian Torres and Zachary White
Commissioners of Athletics:
Reanne Dela Cruz and Zozimo De Oliveira
Commissioners of Religious Affairs and Social Justice Outreach:
