View this email in your browser
Dear Friends,

You're children are AWESOME! We hope you all enjoyed our Christmas Program last Thursday night. You should all be very proud of your children who did such a wonderful job. A special thank you to Irene Navarro, our music teacher and Mr. Rory McKillion for writing and producing such a wonderful program.

At this time, we would like to announce that we have a few changes in staff beginning in January. Rory McKillion will be moving on from St. Thomas More School as he pursues new challenges in his careers and take advantage of new opportunities. We would also like to congratulate him and his wife, Zaira who are expecting their first child in March. Taking Mr. McKillion's place in 5th grade is Heather Cochran. Ms. Cochran has been enjoying getting to know the students this week.

STM Newsletter for December 12, 2018

View this email in your browser
Dear Friends,

As we approach December 25th we eagerly await the miracle of the Birth of Jesus. During these hectic final few days of Advent let us continue to reflect on the "Good News" during this season of waiting. We use this time to express gratitude for the many blessings in our lives, especially our children. They give us hope for a bright future, they bring joy, love, strength and peace into our lives. The challenge for all of us is to make time in a very busy and hectic schedule to spend time with Jesus. How do we carve out time to spend with our Lord during this sacred season of waiting, hoping, and dreaming? Consider joining us here at St. Thomas More Church on Christmas Eve for the Children's Mass at 5:00pm. Find out what time church services are at your local parish. Take a few minutes to pray with your family. Remind your children often that Jesus loves them and will always watch over them. Take some time to enjoy your family and friends during this holy season.

ADVENT PRAYER SERVICES
Thank you to the TK class for preparing a lovely prayer service yesterday as we continue through the Advent season. Please join us next Tuesday, December 18, for our final Advent prayer service which will be presented by 6th grade in the gym at 8:10am.
SANDWICHES-FOR-THE-NEEDY
This Friday, December 14, is our last collection of sandwiches-for-the-needy before the Christmas break. All are welcome to participate and the 3rd and 6th graders are charged with taking the lead that day. In order to facilitate the distribution of sandwiches, we have been asked to provide just one type of sandwich: turkey on sliced white or brown bread. We thank you in advance for what we hope will be another huge collection for those at the Martin de Porres House of Hospitality.
CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS EVE LITURGY
Calling all Angels, Shepherds, Wise Men and readers! Please consider having your child participate in the Christmas Eve Children's Liturgy. Please see this flyer for more information.
PEANUT BUTTER FRIDAY
We're almost there! Please send a jar (or two!), any kind, any size with your child by Friday, December 14. If we reach our goal of 500 jars of peanut butter by Friday, December 14, the student body will enjoy free dress on Wednesday, December 19.
Current Count: 473!
TOY DRIVE
A BIG thank you to all who donated a new, unwrapped toy for our Toy Drive! We received a great response and the toys were picked up today. What a great way to help the less fortunate kids in our community, especially at this time of the year.
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM
Tomorrow night our students will present their Christmas Program and will sing a selection of non-traditional Christmas Carols. All students will be involved in this production. Again this year we will be presenting the program at the Shah Center for The Performing Arts in our Gym. We are requesting that your child wear Christmas nice fancy dress. No t-shirts, sweats, Uggs or sneakers please. Pants/dressy jeans should be fitted, not baggy or ripped.

The yard will be open for parking at 6:00pm. The gym doors will open at 6:15pm to allow students to enter their classrooms and for parents to enter the gym. Everyone is asked to line up in an orderly manner until the gym doors open. All students need to arrive by 6:30pm at the latest. We will begin the program promptly at 7:00pm.

We are asking that everyone attending this fun event considers bringing one or two jars of peanut butter as part of our collection. We look forward to your attendance for this faith-filled and fun-filled production. Everyone is welcome!
As we mentioned last week, we will be sharing some of our WCEA accreditation goals with you over the coming months. Here are some more goals we would like to share with you today:
  • Develop and implement a faith action program. Increase the amount of reflection for the schoolwide service projects. Students need to be clear on the connection between their service to others and their Christian responsibilities.
  • Encourage students to expand their role as full members and ministers in the church beyond school masses and liturgies.
HOOP-A-THON
The Athletic Board will conduct their annual Hoop-a-thon for TK through third grade this Friday, December 14. Sign-ups are still being accepted. Encourage your child to participate in this fun event! We'd love to see you there to cheer on your children!
AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES
As we mentioned last week, we are excited to introduce some new, exciting after school classes through Electivity. Click here to see more information and to register online. The password to access the page is stmwin19. Classes will be held on campus and are open for all Kindergarten through 8th grade students.
