Dear Parents:

Catholic Schools in collaboration with parents and guardians as the primary educators, seek to educate the whole child by providing an excellent education rooted in Gospel values. To that end ask that you take the Catholic Identity Program Effectiveness Parent Survey. Please complete the survey by Wednesday, May 10. It is important that we receive more responses in order to help us grow in our Catholic Faith. Your input is valuable.

SANDWICHES-FOR-THE-NEEDY
Our next sandwiches-for-the-needy collection is this Friday, April 28 with the 4th and 5th graders taking the lead. We encourage all of you to consider making an extra sandwich and/or lunch and sending it to the office on that day.

EXTENDED CARE - HELP WANTED
We have an opening for a part-time staff position at St. Thomas More School's Extended Care. The shifts usually are great for college students who have their afternoons free. Ideally, we prefer college-aged STM alumni, but that is not a requirement. If you know anyone interested, please let Mr. Kavanagh know and give them his contact info: jkav@stmsf.org.

FAMILY LIFE
At this time of the year, teachers of all classes will begin working on the Family Life portion of the Religious Education curriculum. All grades will be using the Benziger Family Life series. We strongly encourage you to use this time to talk with your child about your family's individual views and expectations. Please contact your child's teacher directly if you have any questions about this program.

And now we have some farewells to announce. After being a part of our Preschool staff for the past 3 years, Nicole Porter is relocating to Santa Rosa as she pursues new challenges in her career and takes advantage of new opportunities. Also leaving us and returning to her BVM community in Dubuque, Iowa is Sr. Ann Cronin. Sr. Ann has been a dedicated teacher and Principal in the San Francisco Archdiocese since 1982. We have been lucky to have had Sr. Ann as a leader in our Extended Care Program for the past 5 years. We wish both of them the best in their future endeavors and will miss them both tremendously.

Sincerely,

Marie Fitzpatrick

STM Newsletter for April 12, 2017

View this email in your browser
Dear Parents:

Last Sunday, which was Palm Sunday, marked the beginning of Holy Week. Our remembrance of the events surrounding the death and resurrection of Jesus makes Holy Week the most sacred time of the year for Catholics. Remember to balance the sacred part of Holy Week with all the other Easter preparations you may be making. Over the next few days, as we draw closer to Easter Sunday, let us remember the days leading up to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  • Today, also known as Spy Wednesday, recalls the decision of Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.
  • Holy Thursday is the day when we remember Jesus and his disciples gathering together for the Last Supper. During this meal, Jesus instituted the very first Eucharist. The Mass of the Last Supper, celebrated tomorrow, reminds us of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples to impress upon them the call to serve others.
  • Good Friday services commemorate the crucifixion, death and burial of Jesus. This is the one day of the year Mass is not celebrated. Instead, Good Friday services are held from noon until 3:00pm. This is also a day of fasting and abstinence to commemorate the pain and suffering of Jesus.
  • Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday) Liturgy consists of several parts, including the lighting of the Paschal candle, the Liturgy of the Word, and the Sacraments of Initiation for those electing to become members of the Catholic Church.
  • Easter Sunday is a joyful celebration of Jesus' resurrection from the dead. He also joined his disciples for a meal and told them to carry on his works.
Please check out your church's schedule for Easter Week activities.

SPRING SHOW
Tomorrow we are very excited to present our Spring Show under the direction of our music teacher, Michelle McDaniel. This year, all students in kindergarten through 8th grade will perform show tunes from musicals like Newsies, The Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun and more on the stage of The Shah Performing Arts Center. The Preschool students will perform a special dance to "Can't Stop the Feeling"! We look forward to seeing you at this fun production which kicks off at 11:00am. Parking will be available in the schoolyard beginning at 10:30am and the gym doors will also open at this time.

STM Newsletter for April 5, 2017

View this email in your browser
Dear Parents:

This Sunday, the Sunday before Easter, is known as Palm Sunday. It is the beginning of Holy Week. It celebrates Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. Great crowds of people thronged the streets waving palm branches to welcome Him. The people shouted "Hosanna" and laid their cloaks and palm branches from the nearby trees in His path.
As we move closer to Easter Sunday, please continue to encourage your children to fill their Lenten boxes so that the MCA missionaries can continue their good work in the world. We will be collecting these boxes after we come back from Easter break.

SANDWICHES-FOR-THE-NEEDY
Thank you in advance to the 2nd and 3rd grade students who will take the lead in providing sandwiches for the needy this Friday, April 7. We ask students in all grades to consider making at least one sandwich in this last collection before Easter.

PARENT TUITION AGREEMENT AND
PARENT PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
Please remember to complete both sides of this form and return it to us by the deadline of Friday, April 7.
