STM Newsletter for February 27, 2019

View this email in your browser
Dear Parents,

Ash Wednesday, which is next Wednesday, March 6, marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. Lent is a time when we prepare as a faith community to meet the risen Christ at Easter. It is a time for us to turn away from what keeps us from living the Gospel, and to remind ourselves that we are called to lives rooted in justice. To be just in the biblical sense is to be in a right relationship with God. Over the 40 days of Lent, we pray for a change of heart towards greater love of God and each other as we share our food, our wealth and our time with others in need. May the Holy Spirit give us the strength to act justly, the courage to love tenderly and the faith to walk humbly with our God, as we prepare for the resurrection of Jesus at Easter time.

Yesterday, Mr. Mike from the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) visited with the students to let them know about the important work MCA is doing across the world. MCA stresses children helping children. The children learned they could help missionaries do Jesus' work by praying for them and by sharing their resources. Please ask your children about how they might help others during Lent. Next week students will receive Lenten envelopes to aid them in sharing their resources with MCA so that their missionaries can continue their good work in the world.
Our 27th Cioppino celebration is history! What a wonderful event. This is our largest fundraiser of the year and we are grateful to all who supported the event in any way. There were over 350 diners and countless volunteers for set up, the event itself, and clean up.

Thank you also to the cioppino committee made up of alumni parents, Linda Shah, Zodine Spiegel, Anarose Schelstrate, and to Trilce Farrugia and her crew that worked on the Auction. A big thank you to the many alumni parents who helped organize and work during the event. A special thank you to the three honorary committee members: David Joy, Jim Schelstrate and to our fantastic DJ, Herb Felina.

Congratulations to head chef, Robert Maldonado and his wonderful crew for catering such a scrumptious meal again this year. A special thank you also to Boy Scout Troop 343 for donating their time to assist with parking and serving dinner.

STM Newsletter for February 20, 2019

View this email in your browser
Dear Parents:

Last week was a very busy week here at St. Thomas More as we hosted nine members of the WASC/WCEA Visiting Team. Their three day visit included time observing in all classrooms, meeting with teachers, office staff, students and parents, looking at student data from a variety of sources, examining surveys completed last year by all stakeholders, as well as reading the 84-page report prepared by the school. We are happy to say that the report we received from the Team was incredibly positive and complimentary to STM School. While the official Accreditation Status will not be conferred until June or July, we are very optimistic as to the status we will receive. The complete report will be available and published in the near future. Meanwhile, here is the WCEA Visiting Committee summary page from their report to us. Congratulations to all at STM!

In order to facilitate the distribution of sandwiches, we have been asked to provide just one type of sandwich: turkey on sliced white or brown bread. We thank you in advance for what we hope will be another huge collection for those at the Martin de Porres House of Hospitality.
