STM Newsletter for October 31, 2018

View this email in your browser
Dear Friends,

Tomorrow we begin the month of November with the Feast of All Saints and on Friday we celebrate All Souls Day. November is traditionally dedicated to those who have died and "have gone to their rest believing in Jesus Christ" (Eucharistic Prayer II). The month of November also draws to an end the liturgical calendar of the church. Throughout the month, scripture readings at mass reminds us of the last days, culminating with the Feast of Christ the King on November 26th.

Thank you to all who joined us for our annual Halloween costume parade today. It was great to see everyone in the spirit, whether it was a princess or a villain, a witch or unicorn, everybody looked fantastic! When trick-or-treating tonight, please consider the following safety tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

CONFERENCES
We hope your parent-teacher conferences are going well. The teachers always look forward to meeting with you and sharing the good news about your child's progress. Just a reminder that every day this week is a minimum day, with dismissal at 12:15pm for grades K-3 and 12:30pm for grades 4-8.

STM Newsletter for October 24, 2018

View this email in your browser
Dear Friends,

All Saints Day is celebrated next Thursday, November 1st and on the following day, November 2nd, we celebrate All Souls Day. The vigil or eve of All Saints Day, October 31, is Halloween. The purpose of Halloween is to prepare us for All Saints Day by remembering and celebrating those saints.

All Saints' Day honors all the saints, particularly those who do not have their own special feast day, on November 1. All Souls' Day is a day of prayer for deceased souls. Many Christians visit cemeteries where their loved ones are buried. The Catholic Church remembers deceased members of the congregation on this day and often throughout the month of November.
HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR
A BIG thank you to our 2018 co-chairs of the Fall Festival; Ivon van Mechelen and Michaela Munda. What a fabulous time everyone had this past Saturday. Thank you also to the many volunteers for their countless hours in making this event such a great success. We truly appreciate the many donations that were dropped off over the past few weeks.
HALLOWEEN PARADE
Our K-8 Halloween parade, will begin at 11:00am in the schoolyard on Wednesday, October 31. All are welcome to attend! Costumes may be worn to school on Halloween. When purchasing costumes, please consider the following:
  • Age appropriate
  • Bathroom accessible
  • Make up must be applied at home
  • Shoes must be comfortable for walking
  • No weapons of any kind
Also remember that Wednesday, October 31 is a minimum day with a 12:15/12:30pm dismissal.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
Just a reminder that Monday through Friday, October 29-November 2 are all minimum days with 12:15/12:30 dismissal to accommodate conferences. Yes, there is extended care each of those days. Students not signed in to extended care will not be allowed to remain in the yard during conferences.

REPORT CARDS
We will be sending report cards home in an envelope on Friday, October 26. We ask you to sign and return the envelope to acknowledge receipt.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE and CITIZENSHIP
This year teachers will acknowledge honors and citizenship awards in their individual classrooms. Students who receive such awards will have it noted on the back of their report card. We will not be holding an awards ceremony following mass.

Two students in each grade, TK-5, will receive Citizenship Awards based on the following criteria:
1. Exemplify exceptional Catholic values
2. Demonstrate overall good citizenship
3. Behavioral Expectation and Learning Skills of 2 or above

Academic Excellence Awards will be presented to students in grades 6 through 8 if he/she maintains outstanding grades in the following subjects: Religion, Mathematics, Reading/Literature, English, Science/Health, History/Social Studies, Behavioral Expectations, and Learning Skills. Students receiving first honors must earn a 3.75 GPA or above in all subject areas, and students receiving second honors must earn a 3.50 GPA or above. As a reminder, all honor roll students must receive a 2 or above in Behavioral Expectation and Learning Skills.
THE FUN RUN RESULTS ARE IN!
The results are in! The tabulating and calculating takes some time, however we are able to report the final results of one of our biggest school FUNdraisers. After paying fees that include operating the website, costs of t-shirts and prizes, the facilitator's salary -  the total is.... $44,389.69!!

A very big thank you and heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped to make this a success. Teachers - thank you for always encouraging your students. Parents, friends and families, thank you for the support you gave and continue to give. We are blessed to have such a caring Bronco family and community that encourages and helps over and over again.
