Dear Parents:

The Family Mass, Book Fair, the school-wide open house and the general spirit of goodwill were a fitting beginning to National Catholic Schools Week at St. Thomas More School. We have accomplished so much here by working together. A special thank you to our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers, Anna Tyaglo and Zoe Balmy for preparing a beautiful Family Mass with their students and families. We are so proud of our wonderful TK and Kindergarten students.

This is a good time to reflect on the benefit of being part of a Catholic school. The strong school community, grounded in a shared faith and the support and high expectations of parents, teachers and the larger community, offers your children a foundation for facing the rapidly changing world around them. By sharing this belief in God's goodness and living out their faith every day, your children are blessed with a clear advantage. Faith provides an anchor that will serve your children well into the future.
GRANDPARENTS DAY
Tomorrow we will wrap up Catholic Schools Week here at STM with Grandparents and Special Friends Day! Parking will be available in the schoolyard beginning at 8:30am. A light breakfast for the grandparents will be provided in the gym beginning at 8:30am and activities with the students will begin at 9:30am. Thank you to the 150+ special guests who have RSVP'd for this fun event. The children are really looking forward to welcoming them to our school. Your children are so lucky to have such special people in their lives.
DINO-MITE BOOK FAIR!
Today after school and tomorrow are your last chances to visit the Book Fair! Thank you to all who have visited. Can't make it to our Book Fair? Check out our Online Book Fair. Click here to purchase books. All orders will ship directly to the school when the Online Fair has ended.
ONE WARM COAT COLLECTION

Total coats donated so far: 77!

There is a pre-season tournament in mid-February and practices may begin as February 15th (depending on the gym schedule). If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact STM Basketball Coordinator John Kavanagh at jkav@stmsf.org.

STM Newsletter for January 23, 2019

Dear Parents:

The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2019 is "Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed." This annual celebration begins on the last Sunday in January and runs all week through the following Saturday. The theme includes several concepts that are at the heart of a Catholic education.

A central aspect of Catholic education is learning the importance of service to others. When students take part in service activities they demonstrate the values and faith gained through Catholic education.
This runs from January 27 through February 2. Please mark your calendars for our Family Mass, Open House, Book Fair, Used Uniform Sale and other exciting events on Sunday, January 27. The full schedule of activities for National Catholic Schools Week are included in today's envelope. Don't forget to return the Grandparent's Day invitation which was included in last week's envelope should you wish to have a family member attend.

Spirit Week begins on Monday, January 28 with Meme Monday followed by Pajama Tuesday! Click here to see the rest of the week's schedule.
GEOGRAPHY BEE
Congratulations to 8th grader, George Ramirez, who won the National Geographic Geography Bee conducted last week by Mr. Kavanagh. The bee included three qualifiers each from grades 4-8. Second place went to 5th grader Francis Power. Congratulations to all of our students who participated.

The Kindergarten acceptance process is well underway. We are happy to announce that we have accepted a full class of kindergarten students for the 2019-2020 school year and currently have a waiting list. Depending on the response from those we have accepted, we will begin our second round of screenings in mid-February.

TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN
We are still accepting applications for our Transitional Kindergarten program. Students applying for Transitional Kindergarten (TK) for the 2019-2020 school year must turn five years old between September 2nd and December 2nd, 2019. If you know someone who may be interested, please pass on this application link

UTOPIA PRESCHOOL
For the 2019-2020 school year, our preschool has filled all available spaces. Any further applications received will be placed on the wait list.
STM TAP
This year we have a limited amount of funds available for STM TAP (Tuition Assistance Program). Funds will be distributed on the basis of those families who need the most help. To qualify for temporary tuition assistance, families will need to show proof of financial hardship and funds will be distributed on a discretionary basis by the school administration. Please let Mrs. Fitzpatrick know in writing by next Tuesday, January 29th, if you are interested in receiving an application form. Applications will be sent home in next week's envelope.
