Students were excited to have their first PE and Spanish classes this week and they are looking forward to their music class tomorrow with their new teacher, Mrs. Navarro. Our theme this year is BE COURAGEOUS! "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6-8   BACK TO SCHOOL MASS We hope to see everyone on Sunday, September 9, for one of the most important celebrations of the school year. Please join us for our Back-to-School Mass at 10:00. Come and share in the celebration as we begin a new year together at St. Thomas More School and Utopia Preschool. IMPORTANT FORMS Last week's Wednesday envelope contained important forms that vital forms that require your attention. If you have not already done so, please complete them thoroughly and return them immediately. Universal Medical Information/Emergency Contact Release and Consent Form Medical Release and Consent to Treatment/General Terms of Parental Consent Parent-Student Handbook Acknowledgment 5-8 grade responsibilities Monday Minimum Day Pizza Lunch Order Form (for those wishing to order) AM Extended Care Sign up (for those using this service) PM Extended Care Sign up/Authorization/Allergies (for those using this service) BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT Tomorrow night, Thursday, August 23, is our Back-to-School Night beginning at 7:00pm in the gym. This is a mandatory meeting for all families. We will have a raffle for $500 off tuition for all who arrive on time! Please sign in with you child's teacher(s). One ticket per child. At least one parent from each family is required to attend. As per the 2018-2019 Parent Participation Requirements, families without a representative in attendance will be assessed a $50 fee for a missed meeting. While it would be ideal if children could stay at home, we understand this is not always possible. Childcare for younger children enrolled at STM will be available in Carroll Hall at $10 per family. Please click HERE to make a reservation for childcare. We can only accommodate families who have preregistered. Parking will be EXTREMELY difficult, please plan to arrive on time. Limited parking will be available in the school yard. Consider parking on Brotherhood Way or in Park Merced, or carpooling or using a ride sharing service. SCHOOL CALENDAR September! Wow, is it Busy! Please take a few minutes to carefully look at the August/September calendar in this week's envelope. There are a lot of things to remember and keep track of each week. We are also including a copy of the 18-19 school year calendar. Please consider mirroring calendar items into your electronic devices to help stay organized and prepared. Let Siri do the work! BINGO 'NITE' Family Bingo 'Nite' is set for Saturday, September 22. This is a great event for the whole family! Reservation forms are included in your envelope today. We hope to see you there. SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM As we mentioned last week, again this year we are partnering with Choicelunch to provide lunches on all full days that we are in session. Lunch will consist of an entree, side, snack and drink. Please note that the snack will be delivered at morning recess. Lunches must be pre-ordered online by 9am the previous day (or by 6am day of for an additional fee). How to Register: Visit www.choicelunch.com to create a new account and register your child(ren) (name, grade & allergy info). Please feel free to contact Choicelunch customer service with any question at 1-855-465-8624. SCHOOL LUNCH VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Parent volunteers are needed to help with the lunch program through the end of the school year. Are you free from 11:45am-12:45pm on a regular basis, even once or twice a week? If so, we'd love to have your help. Click here to sign up. FROM THE PARENTS' CLUB St. Thomas More School has a wonderful tradition of parental involvement. Parental involvement in schools tends to improve academic performance and lower behavioral problems among the students. Our Parents' Club is the fundraising arm of the school and also have a lot of fun working together on a variety of events and a great chance to meet with other parents. They are tremendously supportive each school year with events that include the Fall\Halloween Festival, Christmas Boutique, and the famous citywide Cioppino Crab Feed. ​ Check out the welcome back Parents' Club Newsletter here and keep up to date with all that is happening on the new Parents' Club Website. MugsyClicks School Photography will be photographing your child's smiling face this Friday, August 24. MugsyClicks excels in capturing images that reflect children's energy and personality as well as providing affordable, parent-friendly ordering. Their professional photographers accomplish this by treating each child as an individual and by celebrating their character and uniqueness. There is no pre-charge for your child's individual portrait session.  Once images have been edited and uploaded to our site you will have the option to buy them.   Approximately three weeks after picture day your child will be coming home with proofs printed on an order envelope. That envelope will have a unique log-in code for viewing and purchasing their images online. Online ordering is easy, quick, and safe. Be sure and check out our web-only print packages and special offerings like holiday cards, coffee mugs, and jewelry.     All online orders are delivered directly to your home in 5 days or less. We are excited to welcome the twenty-eight kindergartners many of whom recently graduated from our preschool, Utopia, as well as thirteen new transitional kindergarten students! Another special welcome goes out to the nineteen, new, first through eighth graders who are joining us this year. It is our expectation that all our new students and their families will again be warmly welcomed and enjoy their time at St. Thomas More School. Our school continues to thrive because of your wonderful community spirit and the precious children you entrust to our care. We are also very excited to announce several additions to our faculty this year. We welcome Zoe Balmy who is teaching transitional kindergarten and Jordan Pas, our new 3rd grade teacher. Assisting in the kindergarten classroom and teaching religion in 6th grade is Kayla Sancada. We also welcome Mary Slattery, classroom aide for 1st and 4th grade. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS AT SCHOOL As a courtesy to parents, we do allow birthday celebrations during the school day. If you wish to provide a small treat for your child's birthday, you will need to purchase a birthday book beforehand. A birthday book request must be submitted at least a week in advance through the school website. Once this has been submitted, your child's teacher will contact you to set up a mutually convenient plan. Please do not contact the teacher directly. Requests not received in time may require that your child's birthday will be celebrated on a day other than their actual birthday.
