| | Dear Parents, A community of faith can provide support when we are in need of help. They can envelop us in caring and love. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our Student Council has initiated several ways to bring this issue to our attention. During this month, we ask you all to remember to pray for all who have been affected by Breast Cancer. Together our prayers can be powerful. | | BREAST CANCER AWARENESS ACTIVITIES Penny Bucket Challenge: Beginning October 16th through October 29th, the STM Student Council challenges all students from Kindergarten to 8th Grade to bring lots of pennies to school to fill their classroom "Penny Bucket"! Each "Penny Bucket" will be weighed and charted daily to see which class has gathered the most pennies! At the end of two weeks, the class that collects the most pennies will earn a free dress day! Frozen Lemonade Sale: Student Council is hosting a Frozen Lemonade Sale on Friday, October 24th. Frozen Lemonades must be preordered (see the flyer in your envelope today) and are priced at $2.00 each. Frozen Lemonades will be distributed at dismissal so students will enjoy their frozen treat after school! All of the pennies collected from October 16th through the 29th, along with the proceeds from the frozen lemonade sale on October 24th, will be donated to the San Francisco Breast Cancer Emergency Fund in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Don't forget to send in those pennies and preorder a frozen lemonade! | | | SHAKE OUT: You may remember the Loma Prieta earthquake, also known as the World Series Earthquake. It was a major quake that struck the San Francisco Bay Area on October 17, 1989. Tomorrow, Thursday, October 16th, at 10:16am St. Thomas More School along with millions of Californians will participate in Drop, Cover, and Hold On in the largest earthquake drill ever! The purpose of the 'Shake Out' is to practice how to protect ourselves during earthquakes. More information can be found on http://www.theshakeout.org. In the event of an earthquake during school hours, your will be contacted via STM's Emergency Messaging System. Click here to sign up to receive this alert. | | | PICTURE RE-TAKES: Just a reminder that picture retakes are tomorrow for all students who have retuned their complete photo packet as requested. We have prepared a list of students who requested a retake. Forgot to send your packet back? Send it to the office tomorrow, no later than 9am. | | INTERNATIONAL FOOD FESTIVAL: Volunteer opportunities for the International Food/Fall Festival are still available. SAFETY CONCERNS: Please continue to remind your children to be vigilant and be aware of their surroundings. A few days ago, the church was broken into during the early afternoon and somebody with a hammer and a crowbar tried to break in to the candle offertory box in the vestibule of the church. While the police are aware of the situation, we ask your help in monitoring the area around the church and the school as well. The church is closed during the day until further notice. We have also had some issues with broken alcohol bottles in and around the school plant. GO GIANTS! Sincerely, Marie Fitzpatrick Principal | | | | | | |
