Newsletter for Wednesday, June 1, 2016

Dear Parents,

Welcome to your last Wednesday newsletter of the year! No permission slips, no pizza or hot dog lunch order forms…the year is rolling to an end.

Class of 2016: The graduates are off on their last service project today serving lunch to the Glide Memorial community. Tomorrow they will embark on their graduation trip to Great America before they return for all the activities of graduation day this Friday. We are saying good-bye to a fine class of eighth grade students. They have earned awards and recognition for their academic achievements from several of the high schools at which they have been accepted! The student body will come together for the graduates' last Mass as STM students this Friday at 11:00 a.m. The graduation ceremony will be at 5:00 p.m. that evening. At those events, students will pray together, share their thoughts about their time at STM, hear the announcements of awards, and celebrate this educational milestone in their lives. We salute our graduates and hope you will join them at either or both ceremonies.
Congratulations to: Ali Ali, Isabella Androtti, Abigail Atkin, Sebastian Bernardo, Kailee Bumanglag, Rainier Dela Cruz, Reanne Dela Cruz, Francesca Diaz, Deavan Dimacali, Jessica Emhart, Melanie Gagucas, Angela Giusto, Gabriella Conclaves, Sophia Hooe, Adam Kolokotrones, Christopher Law, Dylan Limjoco, Joshua Montano, Waheeb Mukatash, Matthew Nuris, Samantha Panelo, Justin Phaophongsavath, Ethan Ramos, Kevin Sarmiento, Edward Schiefer, Destiny Silva-Castro, Chloe Sladewski, Kailey Solorzano, Kabir Tripathi, Isabella Triunfo, and Victoria Zambrano.

Scrip: Just a reminder that this Friday, June 3 at 6am is the last chance to order any gift cards that are needed before summer vacation. Orders placed by this deadline will be sent home next Wednesday. Remember, gift cards make great gifts for graduations and Father's day! It's not too late to sign up for Great Lakes Scrip, just click here and use our school enrollment code: 17L5C54E28365. New Hot Lunch Program: We are excited to partner with Choicelunch for the 16-17 school year. The Choicelunch program will be completely online and will be available Tuesdays-Fridays. The following is some information they have provided for us to share with you:

"Since 2003, Choicelunch has been serving up the best school lunches in the Bay Area and the state, by offering families wholesome food choices using locally-sourced, all-natural and organic ingredients such as seasonal fruits and veggies, antibiotic and hormone-free meats, and 100% whole-grain breads baked daily.

Our program and facility is 100% nut free and our menu offers your children up to 14 entrée choices per day (6 hot and 8 cold) made fresh in our kitchens daily. At School, Choicelunch kids are empowered to make healthy choices from our daily assortment of fresh fruits or vegetables and drinks (milk, H2O, juice). Our menu always provides for children that are vegetarian or require meals that are free of the top 8 allergies including gluten free and dairy free."

Please look for an email from us in early August with information about how to log on to the Choicelunch website and create your profile. The school will offer a special lunch on Mondays to assist with fundraising for the 5th and 6th grade Outdoor Education Program.

A BIG thank you to Jeffrey and Maria Spiegel, owners of Pops Sandwich Shop and Round Table Pizza on Portola Drive, for providing the school hot lunches over the last decade. They have also provided the delicious lunches served on Grandparents Day.

Band Program: Congratulations also to the students who played in the band. Their performances under the guidance of teacher Josh Frye were superb! We look forward to continuing this after school class again next year.

Oops: Last week we wrote that the Ecology Commissioners for next year were Kiely Madrid and Ethan Ramos. That should have said Kiely Madrid and Ethan Limjoco.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our families who volunteered their time this school year. Activities like showing up for yard duty, rain or shine, volunteering as class reps, attending the Parents' Club meetings and School Advisory Board meetings, chaperoning on field trips, working on Cioppino, the Food Festival, and numerous other school activities, would not happen without you. Your involvement allows St. Thomas More School to be a wonderful place for your children to grow and develop. A special thank you also to those who have donated paper, envelopes, used cartridges, and books for our library. Together we make a big difference in the lives of our children.

See you in August!

Sincerely,

Marie Fitzpatrick
