| | Dear Parents, Today the 3rd grade class completed their presentation of the Stations of the Cross with The Resurrection of Christ. Thank you to all who joined us for this special celebration during the Easter season. As we move through the Easter season, please continue to encourage your children to fill their Lenten boxes so that the MCA missionaries can continue their good work in the world. Please send these boxes into the office by April 30. Our second graders will receive their First Holy Communion on Saturday, April 21 at 10:00am in the church. First Holy Communion, the second sacrament of initiation, is usually received at about age seven or eight, about the time when the children are in second grade. Because receiving the Eucharist for the first time is such a special sacrament, assisting your child in preparing to receive First Holy Communion, both by instruction and example, is important. By attending Mass frequently, participating in reconciliation on a regular basis, and abiding by Catholic values, we can show children how their relationship with God can become stronger. Eucharist is a celebration of what Jesus did at the Last Supper. The word Eucharist means "to give thanks". When we celebrate this sacrament, we thank God for His many gifts and blessings. All are welcome to join us. Please keep the second graders in your prayers as they prepare for this special day. | | CAPITAL CAMPAIGN MORE THAN BRICKS Today you will all be receiving a copy of the Letter of Intent. Thank you to those who have already responded to the campaign. As we said last week, there is no specific, required contribution however, the level of response from all school families to the Campaign will ensure the safety of our children as we move forward with the seismic retrofit and other improvement projects. We ask that all responses are received by Friday, April 27, 2018. | | | SPAGHETTI FEED and FAMILY GAME NIGHT Join us this Saturday, April 14 for a fun filled night. If you haven't made a reservation, it's not too late! Admission is also available at the door. We hope to see you there! | | | FINANCIAL POLICIES Returning families are receiving the Financial Policies for the 2018-2019 school year today. Our primary goal at St. Thomas More School is to provide an excellent academic education for all our students. With this in mind, we have set the tuition rates for the 2018-2019 school year. This year the percentage increase of approximately 3.5% is just above the Consumer Price Index. We have kept it as low as possible as we are also asking for a large commitment from you to support our Capital Campaign. PARENT TUITION AGREEMENT PARENT PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS Returning families are receiving the Parent Tuition Agreement and the Parent Participation Requirements for the 2018-2019 school year today. Please read them over and then complete both forms and return them to us by the deadline, Wednesday, April 25. By returning those forms, we will know that you agree with the Parent Tuition Agreement and that you acknowledge and understand the Parent Participation Requirements for the coming school year. Please keep in mind that tuition payments for the 2018-2019 school year will begin in May and be processed through FACTS Tuition Management. 2018-2019 CALENDAR Today you are receiving the school calendar for 2018-2019, which has been approved by the Archdiocese. Hopefully this will help those of you who are planning your vacations. Please make note of the 2 additional student holidays in September and October as we prepare for our WCEA Accreditation. | | | SPRING SHOW - THURSDAY, APRIL 26 On Thursday, April 26th, we will present our Spring Show under the direction of Michelle McDaniel, our music teacher. This year, all students in kindergarten through 8th grade will perform show tunes from Broadway musicals on the stage of The Shah Performing Arts Center. The Preschool students will perform a special dance to "Thriller"! We look forward to seeing you at this fun production which kicks off at 11:00am. Parking will be available in the schoolyard beginning at 10:30am and the gym doors will also open at this time. | | | 8TH GRADE MOVIE SCREENING Please join 8th grade for the world premiere of the short films they have been working on over the past few weeks. We will screen the movies in the gym on Thursday April 26th immediately following the Spring Show. The 8th graders would love you to come and enjoy the results of their hard work and creativity. | | | MOCK TRIAL As a reminder, the Mock Trial Workshop will again be offered this Spring Semester by Vilaska Nguyen. FAMILY LIFE At this time of the year, teachers of all classes will begin working on the Family Life portion of the Religious Education curriculum. All grades will be using the Benziger Family Life series. We strongly encourage you to use this time to talk with your child about your family's individual views and expectations. Please contact your child's teacher directly if you have any questions about this program. CONGRATULATIONS! We are happy to announce that one of our Utopia preschool teachers, Andrea Posadas, was selected to receive First 5 San Francisco's 2018 Excellence in Teaching Recognition Award. The annual Excellence in Teaching Awards is based on a competitive nomination process, focused on teaching excellence, as well as evidence of family engagement, leadership, and demonstrated commitment to creating high-quality, innovative early care and education curriculum, and environments. Andrea will be honored at an awards reception to be held at Children's Creativity Museum on May 24. We are truly blessed to have such excellent teachers here at STM. Sincerely, Marie Fitzpatrick Principal | | | | | | |
