SACRAMENTS AT STM

Last school year we were forced to cancel the reception of sacraments to the disappointment of  many of our students and families. This year, even though we are still in the midst of the pandemic, we have made arrangements for both our 2nd and 3rd graders to receive First Sacraments and for students in 7th and 8th grades to be confirmed according to the following schedule.

FIRST RECONCILIATION, Thursday, April 15
3rd Grade, 9:00am
2nd Grade, 11:00am

FIRST COMMUNION, Saturday, April 24
3rd Grade, 9:30am
2nd Grade, 12:00pm

CONFIRMATION, Friday, April 30
8th Grade, 1:00pm
7th Grade, 4:00pm

Both First Communion and Confirmation will take place in the schoolyard. Final details will be worked out over the next two months but the plan is to build a "platform" where we can set up an altar, and set up chairs 6' apart for students and confirmation sponsors. Families will possibly be required to remain in their cars and follow along on the livestreamed ceremony. Access will be limited to immediate family only. A professional photographer will be hired for each event.

As per the directive issued last year by Archbishop Cordiolone, Confirmation will be administered by Fr. Marvin.

Your skills for building the altar platform and setting up the space will be greatly appreciated. Please contact the office if you are available to assist with these projects.

Valentine's Day Celebrations at STM: February 11

Teachers will also have school packets and/or material ready for pick-up

We hope to make our Valentine's Day celebration a fun and festive one for all students. Because not all students will be on campus to participate, the passing of individual cards or treats will not be permitted at school. However there are some fun plans in the works.

  • Valentine's free dress for all.
  • Treat bags will be provided by the school to each student.
  • Distance Learning students may pick up their Valentine's bags outside between 12 noon and 2:00PM. They will be set up on tables and labeled by grade.
  • Students on campus will get their treats in school.
  • The Student Council is selling candy grams. These will be added to the bags being picked up.

EARN PARENT HOURS

This year it has been particularly difficult for many of you to earn the required parent hours as so many of our usual events were not held. We are preparing a wish list of items that the teachers and the school could use. That list will be available next week.

Meanwhile, here's one opportunity to earn one hour now.

VALENTINE'S DONATIONS NEEDED

Donations of candy, stickers, pencils, and other Valentine themed items are needed to fill the treat bags. If you wish your donation to count towards 1 hour of parent participation please email your class rep. to let them know you have made  a donation.

VALENTINE'S DAY CANDY GRAMS

For Valentine's Day, the Student Council is selling candy grams for $1 each. Please fill out the Candy Gram Order Form by February 8th, and it will be billed through your FACTS account.

Candy grams will be ready for distance learners to pick up on Thursday, February 11th. They will be distributed to in-person learners also on Thursday, February 11th.

STM POP TABS

As a Catholic elementary school, Saint Thomas More has two main focuses - service and children. Luckily, we found a charity that encompasses both! The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is a non profit organization dedicated to helping children in their time of need. Located near children's hospitals around the country, the Ronald McDonald House gives a home away from home to families of children who are critically ill and experiencing extended stays in the hospitals.

RMHC allows sick children the joy of spending the most time possible with their families. RMHC gives these extremely ill children a sense of happiness, hope, and support that would not be found otherwise. The Ronald McDonald House accepts donations of all kinds, but their main donation is POP TABS! You read that right, POP TABS! Even the youngest family members can help with this.

The money collected from pop tabs goes to supporting families while they stay at the Ronald McDonald House. Throughout the next couple months, grab a container or plastic bag, and start collecting your pop tabs! These can be dropped off at STM at any point, addressed to Miss Pas. For more information, check out the links below. Happy pop-tabbing STM families!

February has crept up on us with some welcome rainfall, daffodils peeking through, buds on the trees and signs of new life everywhere. Although Spring is still over six weeks away  I am grateful for new beginnings and a renewed hope for better days ahead.

Blessings,

Marie Fitzpatrick
