View this email in your browser Newsletter for Wednesday, April 13, 2016 Dear Parents,   Our seventh graders will receive their Confirmation on April 29th at 5:30pm in the church. When children receive confirmation, the third sacrament of initiation, they are showing that they are responsible, prepared individuals who are ready to become full-fledged members of the Catholic faith. They renew the vows their sponsors made for them when they were baptized. The bishop anoints the confirmandi with chrism accompanied by the words "Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit". This reaffirms the graces of the Holy Spirit conferred on the child at baptism. We offer our congratulations to all the candidates who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. Please keep the seventh graders in your prayers as they prepare for this special day. Take the Catholic Identity Program Effectiveness Parent Survey Thank you to the 14 families that have completed the Catholic Identity Survey. If you have not had the chance to complete this survey, please do so by Wednesday, April 20th. It is important that we receive more responses in order to help the school and the Archdiocese plan our religious education program. Your input is valuable.  Calendar Items SPRING SHOW GRADES 3-8 Tomorrow, April 14th at 7:00pm in Carroll Hall The front doors of the school will open at 6:00pm to allow the 4th-8th grade students to enter their classrooms. Students should arrive no later than 6:20pm. Parking will be available in the schoolyard beginning at 6:00pm. The doors of Carroll Hall will also open at 6:00pm. GRADES PK-3: Friday, April 15th at 1:15pm in Carroll Hall The preschoolers through third graders will perform at 1:15pm in the gym. Parking will be available in the schoolyard beginning at 1:00pm. The doors of Carroll Hall will open at 1:00pm. 8TH GRADE FESTIVAL OF PLAYS Please join us for 'Festival of Plays', a unique showcase of 10 original plays, written, directed, produced and performed by the 8th grade class. The showcase will be on Thursday, April 28th at 7pm in Carroll Hall. This one-of-a-kind performance is open to all St. Thomas More School Families. See you there! Monday, April 18th Grade 6-8 guest speaker 9:00-10:30am, Carroll Hall Tuesday, April 19th Prayer Service 8:15am, Gym Confirmation Service Retreat Tuesday, April 19th - Friday, April 21st 5th and 6th grade Outdoor Education Saturday, April 23rd First Communion 10:00am, STM Church Tuesday, April 26th Mandatory Parent Meeting 7pm, Gym for families with students entering K-8 next year Friday, April 29th Confirmation 5:00pm, STM Church Parent Tuition Agreement and Parent Participation Requirements: Last week, returning kindergarten through seventh grade families received the Parent Tuition Agreement and the Parent Participation Requirements for the 2016-2017 school year. Please complete both forms and return them to us by the deadline, Wednesday, April 20th. A few months ago the  City & County of San Francisco did construction work along Brotherhood Way from Thomas More Way to St. Charles Ave.  The work involved constructing curb ramps and sidewalk to make the pedestrian pathways safer and more accessible.  The next proposed project to enhance the safety of this area is The Brotherhood Way Tunnel Lighting Project at the Junipero Serra overpass. Please read this flyer. If you live in District 7 please cast your vote to support this worthy cause and will ensure the continued safety of our children. At this time of the year, teachers of all classes will begin working on the Family Life portion of the Religious Education curriculum. All grades will be using the Benziger Family Life series. We strongly encourage you to use this time to talk with your child about your family's individual views and expectations. Please contact your child's teacher directly if you have any questions about this program.
