| | Dear Parents: As we move closer to the feast day of St. Valentine, we ask that you remember those less fortunate around you by showing a little love. The parable of the Good Samaritan from the Gospel of Luke is a great example of this. The parable tells of a traveler who is beaten and robbed along the side of the road. First a priest and then a Levite come by, but both avoid the man. Finally, a Samaritan comes by. The Samaritan helps the injured man. How can you help and show love as we draw closer to February 14? How about making an extra sandwich, or two, for those in need at the Martin de Porres House of Hospitality. This Friday, February 10, our 2nd and 7th graders will take the lead in providing sandwiches-for-the-needy. We encourage ALL families to provide an extra sandwich. Some of our older students will prepare 50 additional sandwiches with the residents at Alma Via to add to this collection. | | | Thank you to Sue Kapovich and Kathleen Wilkinson who organized a great Grandparents and Special Friends Day and to everyone who made it such a success! The children were so happy to have over 150 special guests join us for this fun event. A HUGE thank you goes out to Melody Dicks, Rita Franchi, Yvonne Benedict, Judy Silva, Raquel Martinez, and Ana Machuca for their help in preparing breakfast for the grandparents and special friends to enjoy. Thanks also to the many other parent volunteers who pitched in to make the day run so smoothly. | | Also a HUGE thank you to Judy Silva, and her competent committee of booksellers for the great job they did all last week with this year's Book Fair. Thanks to all of you who bought books to enrich your children's lives and to donate to the classroom libraries. We are close to our goal of receiving 60% of our sales back in Scholastic dollars. This will be used to purchase additional books for the library. | | | | GOLF TOURNAMENT Thank you to everyone who supported our 3rd Annual Golf Tournament, The STM Classic. Even though the weather looked gloomy, it turned out to be a wonderful success. After expenses, we brought in almost $14,000 (which almost doubles last years income) to aid in the purchase of lighting and sound for the stage. Congratulations to the winning team - Don Shaw, Joe O'Brien, George Birmingham and Joe Hardiman. A big thank you to Sinead Foley and Michael O'Shaughnessy (parents of Aoife, Preschool, and Anna, 4th grade) for planning and organizing the tournament. | | | SPELL-A-THON Today you will receive information about our fourth annual Spring Spell-A-Thon in support for our technology program.
