STM Newsletter for September 20, 2017

Dear Friends,

The National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) started a campaign joining together with Catholic school families throughout the country seeking to help Catholic schools in areas affected by the recent hurricanes in Texas, Louisiana and Florida. The NCEA invited every Catholic school family to contribute at least $1 per student to this national campaign. St. Thomas More School is taking this a step further and is asking that students donate $2 to wear free dress on Monday, September 25.

These funds, as well as those raised from the Student Council Bake Sale will be used to help Catholic schools impacted by the storm rebuild, reopen and re-enroll students. Funds will also be used to help those affected by the recent earthquakes in Mexico.

As we mentioned last week, on October 7, 2017, Archbishop Cordileone will consecrate the Archdiocese of San Francisco to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. All events will take place at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption. We encourage all families to consider participating in this special consecration. Please click here for more details on the schedule of events. If you and your family plan to participate, the Archdiocese has asked that students who attend Catholic schools to please wear their uniforms to represent their school.
This week is N Week. We are Nurturing Individuals who inspire school spirit by their example. This week's question was: How do you show your school spirit? 6th grade will share their answers during morning assembly.
FUN RUN
We're in the home stretch! With 3 days left, we have almost reached $51,000! Congratulations to preschooler, Naomi, who is still holding the top fundraiser spot! Don't forget, pledges can still be made online. Send the link to your family and friends across the world! The website will remain open until Monday, September 25.

INFORMATION FOR FRIDAY
All students and staff should wear comfortable clothing and shoes. All students will be receiving a Fun Run T-shirt. Thank you to those who have offered to volunteer. We still need some additional help! If you are available from 8:30-12:30, please let the office know. As a reward for all the hard work the students have done to make this such a successful fundraiser, we will host a dance party Friday afternoon and students will receive some treats.

SCHEDULE
  • 8:45am-9:35am Preschool and Kindergarten
  • 9:45am-10:35am 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades
  • 10:45am-12:05pm 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades
PROGRESS REPORTS
Progress Reports are going home today. All students, third grade and up, are receiving such a report. These progress reports show a snapshot of the student's current academic standing with optional comments from their teachers. The grading scale is available here. As a system default, art, PE, music and tech will show P/100% for students who fully participate. Students in grades K-2 with behavior and/or academic concerns have already been contacted by their child's teacher.
OUTDOOR ED PIZZA LUNCH FUNDRAISER - MINIMUM DAY
On Monday, September 25, pizza lunch will be delivered to those who pre-ordered it back in August. The lunch will be distributed to your child right before dismissal to either eat at home or extended care. Students attending extended care who have not pre-ordered will have the opportunity to purchase a slice of pizza and drink when they check in. The charge will be billed to your FACTS account.
SCHOOL TOURS/APPLICATION FORMS
We ask your help in encouraging prospective parents to consider St. Thomas More School for their child for the 2018-2019 school year. You, our current families, are our best advertising! Please invite friends and relatives interested in St. Thomas More School to come to one of our school tours for prospective parents. Click HERE to reserve a place on one of the tours.

K-8 new student application forms for the 2018-2019 school year will be available in the front office and for download online beginning on Monday, October 2, 2017. Families with siblings of current students, as well as families of preschool students, can use the flyer included in today's envelope to request an application. Students currently attending Utopia Preschool and/or with siblings currently attending St. Thomas More School will be given preference in the Kindergarten class of 2018-2019 if the application is submitted in a timely manner.

2018-2019 PRESCHOOL APPLICATIONS
Utopia, our preschool, has begun accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year. Please note that preschool spots fill up very fast. If you have a child who is of preschool age (3 years old by September 1st) and you would like them to attend Utopia next Fall, we strongly suggest you arrange a tour with Utopia's Assistant Director, Stephanie Vorrises, and submit an application as soon as possible.
DO YOU HAVE A GREEN THUMB?
We are looking for some help in beautifying our campus. If you or anyone you know is interested in volunteering for some light landscaping and gardening, please let the office know.

PAPER DONATIONS
One way we save money is by using recycled paper, paper printed only on one side. So many of you are kind enough to collect it at your place of business and bring it to us on a regular basis. Your generous donation of new and recycled paper is very much appreciated. Please keep these donations coming!

Sincerely,
Marie Fitzpatrick
Principal
