Dear STM Families,

Catholic Schools Week gives us an opportunity to reflect on the reasons Catholic schools are a school of choice for many families. Here are a few of the reasons parents are choosing STM:

  • Catholic faith and teachings are integrated with academic excellence
  • The environment is safe and welcoming
  • Faculty and staff are dedicated, caring and effective
  • High expectations are in place for all students
  • Technology is used effectively to enhance education

This coming week of celebration gives us an opportunity to highlight all the benefits of a Catholic education and allows us to spread the good news about STM. Details of many of our events for the week are included below.

Fr. Marvin will offer the first Sunday Family Mass of 2021 at 10am, January 31st. All masses are streamed through Facebook. Please consider attending. https://www.facebook.com/STMOfficialPage/videos/2920630201546636/

Weekend masses continue outside on the church steps and all are welcome to attend. For your continued safety, you may tune in to the live mass from your own car and participate as a community of prayer.  Fr. Marvin welcomed our students in 2nd through 8th grade to mass last Friday. They will continue to participate weekly for the remainder of the school year.

Next week, check our website daily for some great new videos showcasing parents, teachers, students and of course our beloved Grandparents.

As we enter a new year we continue to be in the face of challenges surrounding Covid-19. I will be reaching out periodically with tips and resources that you may find helpful. As we progress through the school year my intention is to provide resources and other helpful tools that will support and educate the community.

This week starts with some tips and recommendations on how to set predictable routines to make your child successful during distance learning, and in life.

Set Predictable Routines

  • Start early when your child is rested.
  • Review the daily schedule and make sure your child understands it (e.g., first you will…, then you can…).
  • Help your child build independence (e.g., learn to prepare their own snack, troubleshoot computer problems).
  • Let your child know when and how they can ask for help.
  • Keep regular sleep times.

Mindfulness and Meditation

During the pandemic families are home more than ever. Here is  a list of free links to mindfulness and meditation exercises. Families are encouraged to participate with their children in the activities. Mindfulness and meditation can be used as a daily practice, and as a tool to help relieve stress and anxiety.

Between January 11- February 6, St. Thomas More School will be collecting clean, new or gently used coats in conjunction with ONE WARM COAT. Your donations will benefit many local charities in the area which are in desperate need of coats. Please help us keep everyone warm this winter. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Kindly drop coats in the bins outside the front door of the school during school hours, Monday through Thursday.
