STM Newsletter for February 20, 2019

Dear Parents:

Last week was a very busy week here at St. Thomas More as we hosted nine members of the WASC/WCEA Visiting Team. Their three day visit included time observing in all classrooms, meeting with teachers, office staff, students and parents, looking at student data from a variety of sources, examining surveys completed last year by all stakeholders, as well as reading the 84-page report prepared by the school. We are happy to say that the report we received from the Team was incredibly positive and complimentary to STM School. While the official Accreditation Status will not be conferred until June or July, we are very optimistic as to the status we will receive. The complete report will be available and published in the near future. Meanwhile, here is the WCEA Visiting Committee summary page from their report to us. Congratulations to all at STM!

SANDWICHES-FOR-THE-NEEDY
This Friday, February 22, is our next collection of sandwiches-for-the-needy. All are welcome to participate and the 2nd and 6th graders are charged with taking the lead that day. In order to facilitate the distribution of sandwiches, we have been asked to provide just one type of sandwich: turkey on sliced white or brown bread. We thank you in advance for what we hope will be another huge collection for those at the Martin de Porres House of Hospitality.
CIOPPINO ONLINE BIDDING NOW OPEN
On Saturday, February 23, we look forward to a fantastic evening. Tickets will not be given out this year, instead, those attending should check in at the door. Take a peek at our fantastic Cioppino Silent Auction items. Online bidding is now available. Thanks for all your support!
MANDATORY PARENT MEETING
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, March 5 for a mandatory parent meeting for all families of TK/Kindergarten through 8th grade. This is a mandatory meeting for all parents. At least one parent from each family is required to attend. Please click HERE to make a reservation for childcare. Doors open at 6:00pm for hospitality and light refreshments. We will begin the meeting in the gym promptly at 6:45pm. Be on time for your chance to win one of two free re-registration fees (a winning 8th grade parent will have their graduation fees waived)!

PROGRESS REPORTS AND STAR TESTING RESULTS
Progress Reports are going home today. All students, fourth grade and up, are receiving such a report. These progress reports show a snapshot of the student's current academic standing with optional comments from their teachers. The grading scale is available here. As a system default, art, PE, music and tech will show P/100% for students who fully participate. Students in the lower grades with behavior and/or academic concerns have already been contacted by their child's teacher.

All TK-8th grade students will receive a third quarter STAR testing parent report in your Wednesday envelopes today.
PANORAMIC PICTURE
MugsyClicks, our school picture company, will be here tomorrow to take this picture of all students, preschool through 8th grade, as well as all faculty and staff in our gym at 10am. More information on how to order a copy will be emailed to you in the coming weeks.

GRADUATION PICTURES
8th grade graduation pictures are also tomorrow. Please follow the appropriate dress guidelines given by Miss Kane. As a reminder, boys should wear white-collared shirts and ties with either a suit or dress pants and dress shoes. Girls are reminded that there is to be no make-up, dangling earrings, or nail polish.

Scholarships are available for CyberMath Academy's summer camps. Interested students can sign up for consideration here. Scholarship amount varies depending on the student's achievements and/or need and availability of funds. Our camps are open to students in grades 4-12. Application Deadline for scholarships is March 24, 2019.
