Filipino Parol Making Workshop

Saturday, November 6, 2021

9 am-3 pm at St. Monica Parish's Social hall
470 24th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94121
To RSVP call Estrelle Chan at 415-336-9193

The Filipino Ministry of the Archdiocese of San Francisco is having our annual Filipino "Parol" making workshop on Saturday, November 6th, from 9am to 3pm, at the St. Monica parish hall.  The "Parol" is a prominent and traditional Filipino Christmas decoration which dates back to the 1600's.  Back then, Filipino farmers and fishermen would create lanterns in the shape of the star of Bethlehem to light their way in the dark as they journeyed to attend pre-dawn, or evening novena of masses leading up to Christmas.  Students and their families are invited to the workshop to make their own Filipino Parol, and to learn more about the way in which Filipinos celebrate our universal Catholic faith through our own unique cultural traditions and faith practices.
